American Eyes is an ongoing photo series centered around Americans who play important roles within their communities. From The Fire Chief to The Farmer, the series consists of over 300 portraits.
The work explores perceptions of American imperialism, as well as notions of gendered and racialized identities that dominate social narratives. It seeks to critique the otherization of certain peoples in America, highlighting the equal importance of every role that individuals play. Concepts of social value are often linked to a hierarchy, and this work attempts to expose and dismantle this way of thinking. The series stands as a reminder that in communities across the nation, the people who keep our streets clean and our children healthy are equally as important as those who entertain us.
