Dorian Lynde is a Canadian-born artist and photographer based in California. She attended the University of Toronto’s Fine Arts and Equity Studies program in her home town of Toronto and has since continued her focus on exploration in this field. Ultimately, it has led to her artwork following a socially conscious approach centered around the exploration of femininity and identity formation.

Much of Dorian’s work involves hand painting production cels, a process of painting liquid vinyl onto celluloid sheets that are most often used in animation. It is a historically gendered practice, with roots in Disney’s corporate policy to bar women from contributing creatively to their productions, hiring them only for grueling ink and paint work that went almost completely unrecognized.

In 2016 she gave a TEDx Talk at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul, South Korea about the historical marginalization of women in art.
